Ashbury is one of the smallest and most tightly held suburbs in the inner west, bounded by Ashfield, Canterbury and Hurlstone Park. There’s no real commercial strip here, just a small handful of shops on King Street. For anything bigger, locals head over to Canterbury Road or across to Campsie.

The whole suburb was laid out in 1919 and is now a heritage conservation area, which means the streets are lined almost wall to wall with Federation and Californian bungalow houses from the 1920s and 30s, many still carrying their original leadlight windows and terracotta roof tiles. Blocks are small and the streets are narrow and tightly packed, so we’re used to working around close-set driveways and street parking on jobs here.

Peace Park sits at the highest point of the old Canterbury council area and is the suburb’s main green space, along with Lees Park and Wagener Oval down toward the football ground. Ashbury Public School on Trevenar Street anchors the middle of the suburb, with family homes wrapped around it on almost every side.

Ashbury is in the Canterbury-Bankstown Council area. A bin on your own property doesn’t need approval. On the footpath, nature strip or road, the council requires a permit first. Tell us at booking and we’ll walk you through it.
