Girraween is a small, quiet pocket of Sydney’s west, neighbouring Toongabbie, Pendle Hill, Pemulwuy and Greystanes in the Cumberland Council area. It’s a residential suburb through and through, with Toongabbie Road running through it and Pendle Hill railway station on the T1 Western Line an easy walk away for anyone commuting into Parramatta or the CBD.
Housing here is mostly older family homes on separate blocks, the kind of stock you’d expect from a suburb subdivided for residential living last century, alongside a good number of semi-detached houses and townhouses on the smaller lots. It’s a settled, leafy street pattern rather than a strip of shops, and residents lean on the shops around Pendle Hill and Toongabbie for groceries and a coffee. The name Girraween comes from an Aboriginal word meaning “place of flowers”, which still suits the leafy, garden-heavy streets today.
Our Seven Hills depot is a short drive from Girraween, so getting a bin here doesn’t mean waiting days. It’s not a public shopfront, just trucks and a recycling sort yard.
This part of Girraween falls under Cumberland Council. A bin on your own property doesn’t need approval. On the footpath, nature strip or road, the council requires a permit first. Tell us at booking and we’ll walk you through it.
