North Rocks is a leafy, family-oriented suburb, and it shows in the housing. Most homes are single and two-storey houses built through the 1960s and 70s, sitting on larger blocks than you’ll find closer to the city, with pockets of newer townhouses along North Rocks Road. That older housing stock means a steady flow of kitchen and bathroom renovations, deck and pergola builds, and the odd knock-down rebuild as blocks get redeveloped.
North Rocks Road is the suburb’s commercial spine, running past North Rocks Shopping Centre, home to Coles, Kmart and around 70 specialty stores. For green space, locals also use North Rocks Park, on the North Rocks and Carlingford border, and Muirfield Golf Club on Barclay Road sits nearby too. At the southern end of the suburb, off Loyalty Road near the North Parramatta border, there’s a light industrial and business park precinct with warehouses and offices for names like Unilever and Officeworks, alongside the trade and building suppliers that come with it. That precinct adds a steady run of trade and construction jobs to the renovation work already common across the suburb.
Most of North Rocks falls under City of Parramatta Council. North of the M2 Hills Motorway, it’s The Hills Shire Council instead. A bin on your own property doesn’t need approval either way. On the footpath, nature strip or road, you’ll need a permit from whichever council covers your street. Tell us at booking and we’ll confirm which one applies and walk you through it.
